Orange's Green Data Center Presented to BUT Students

Visit Business, Career Guidance, and Employment
April 30, 2026
On April 23, a group of first-year students in BUT and Telecommunications (RT) BUT had the opportunity to visit the Orange Business Data Center in Grenoble. This annual visit is part of an initiative to introduce students to various career fields and provides their first hands-on experience with the professional world, which may lead to work-study opportunities.

An inside look at a Green Data Center

The students, welcomed by Romain Montagnat-Rentier, the site manager and operations director (and also a former student at IUT1), were able to discover a Green Data Center designed to minimize its carbon footprint, thereby highlighting the current challenges of energy efficiency in the digital sector.

During the visit, the students gained a better understanding of:
  • how a data center operates and its central role in the digital infrastructure,
  • data security issues,
  • energy efficiency challenges,
  • and the management of large-scale IT infrastructure.

A long-term partnership supporting our training programs

Orange Business has been a long-standing partner of IUT1 and the RT Department. This collaboration fully demonstrates the strength of the ties between the IUT and the local business community, which help students gain professional experience.
Through initiatives like this, IUT1 Grenoble reaffirms its commitment to offering programs grounded in real-world experience and in direct collaboration with key players in the digital sector.
