Yes, no new BUT programs BUT created in 2021/22.
Yes, all BUT programs BUT several tracks (ranging from 1 to 5), typically starting in thesecond year. If a track begins inthe first year, this is clearly indicated and constitutes a separate application choice on Parcoursup.
Tracks are progressive "specializations" that allow students to focus on a specific area of expertise within a program.
Through a new competency-based educational approach focused on real-world business scenarios, longer internship periods, and the widespread adoption of work-study programs, the BUT the foundation laid by the DUT by strengthening ties between businesses and students, whose training will be even more closely aligned with the realities of the workplace.
This new three-year program is based on a national curriculum developed in collaboration with socio-economic partners. The curriculum allows for up to 30% local adaptation, making it both highly consistent and highly customizable to best meet the needs of businesses in their respective regions.
The local adaptation is spread over the three years, without exceeding 40% of the total number of hours for each year of BUT.

Based on a competency-based approach, the degree is awarded upon the validation/acquisition of the targeted competencies. Competencies are assessed through practical scenarios that allow for the evaluation of the student’s ability to apply acquired knowledge in a professional context—that is, contextualized practical skills. Since these competencies rely on the application of knowledge, this knowledge may also be assessed as part of the validation of academic achievements.
What is the difference between the third year of BUT a so-called "deferred" professional bachelor's degree? The "suspended" professional bachelor's degree program admits a diverse student body up to its capacity, offering a degree designed locally to meet specific needs; its sole focus is on career readiness. The curriculum of the 60-ECTS professional degree is structured as a one-year program aligned with DUT, BTS, and even L2 degrees, whereas the third year of BUT ensure continuity and the completion of a three-year curriculum. It automatically admits students who have successfully completed the second year of BUT, but also, through transfer pathways, any student who has earned 120 ECTS credits and is eligible for admission to the fifth or sixth semester of BUT approval of their application by an ad hoc committee.
What will happen to professional degrees? "Suspended" professional bachelor's degrees (LP) worth 60 ECTS credits, which are open to students with two years of post-secondary education but cannot be part of a BUT program because they are too specialized for various reasons (niche LPs, LPs involving a specific partnership, etc.), coexist alongside the BUT.
Can a student who completed their DUT from 2019 to 2021 or from 2020 to 2022 take a third year of BUT No, the BUT rolled out gradually starting in September 2021; the first year of BUT begin in September 2021, and the third year in September 2023. However, students graduating in 2021 or 2022 will still be able to pursue an additional year of study in a “suspended” LP program worth 60 ECTS credits.
As a student who enrolled in 2019 and did not complete my second year by July 2020, can I repeat my second year of BUT Yes, every effort will be made to ensure students' safety.
If I graduate after two years, will I receive a DUT instead of a BUT? Once I complete my first two years of BUT, I automatically receive the DUT. I can then choose to enter the workforce or pursue another educational path.
Please note: This intermediate degree is not listed in the National Directory of Professional Certifications (RNCP), unlike the BUT, Professional Bachelor’s degrees, and the former DUT.
Does having a BUT prevent me from continuing my studies (as is the case with a professional bachelor’s degree)? No, the BUT definitely very flexible: at each stage, it allows students to choose whether to continue as a student, pursue a work-study program, or enter the workforce (after three years of higher education or following further studies)! Please note that, depending on the school, I may be admitted after my third year of BUT with my DUT at the end of my second year of BUT. You should check with the schools for specific details. To clearly distinguish between the two, it is best to use only “Bachelor Universitaire de Technologie” or BUT

No, the BUT still BUT students with general, technological, and other types of high school diplomas on a selective basis. As with the DUT, some spots are reserved for students with technological high school diplomas. In all cases, the specialty or specialties studied in high school must align with the specialty of BUT which you wish to apply.
