The courses

Three tracks are offered starting in the second year:
  • AII Track: Automation and Industrial Computing:
    • Install and program industrial automation systems
    • Implement control systems (supervision and human-machine interface) for facilities, including their monitoring, tracking, etc.
    • Place digital technologies (IoT, digital twins, augmented/virtual reality, AI, etc.) at the heart of manufacturing processes

  • EME Track: Electricity and Energy Management:
    • Electricity generation and distribution, electrical installation
    • Urban and rail transportation, electric vehicles, aerospace, and the operational safety of industrial systems
    • Electric energy storage, renewable energy, energy efficiency.

  • ESE Track: Electronics and Embedded Systems:
    • Analyze, design, and build electronic and microelectronic systems
    • Developing autonomous embedded systems (operation and power supply based on a microcontroller/microprocessor)
    • Connect and maintain electronic equipment in a variety of fields

The organization of the training

  • Weekly course load of 30 to 35 hours, including lectures, seminars, lab sessions, and projects
  • Supervised projects led by teachers and professionals.
  • Work experience: A 22- to 26-week internship spread over three years, designed to give students practical experience and help them envision their future career.

A typical week

  • 1.5 days of lectures and tutorials
  • 1.5 days of hands-on training (electronics, energy, automation, computer science)
  • 1 day of project work
  • 0.5-day language and communication course

Subjects Taught

Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Automation, Energy, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Industrial Computing, as well as essential interdisciplinary fields such as mathematics, communication, applied physics, and English.

Initial training or work-study program

At IUT1 in Grenoble, students complete their first year of BUT program as part of their initial training.
Starting in the second year, students can choose between a traditional program with at least 22 weeks of internship or a work-study program.
